Waken up tired eyes

Dark circles under the eyes are a telltale sign of being tired. Whether due to working late, a night out or lack of sleep, the eye is one of the first places where tiredness takes its toll.

There was a very good ethnological study on the fishermen of the Claddagh published in the Ulster Journal of Archaeology in 1854, which among other things stated that: “The people of the Claddagh are, in my opinion, purely Irish, of the most ancient Celtic type. The village at the present day is like any ordinary Irish village, and that it was a mud city when Rome was being founded, is more than probable. That the Claddagh men are not Spaniards any one might see at a glance; and it is astonishing to me how the theory of their Spanish origins could have kept ground for so long. A Spanish face may still be seen in and about Galway — once in a week or so; but it appears to me that the Claddagh, above all other people, had no intermarriage with Spaniards.

Spring is in the air and while the sun is playing hide and seek many of us are busy preening ourselves for the big upcoming summer unveiling and where better to complete this process than at the Laserderm Clinic.
For more than a year I’ve been going to see Lisa Callaghan at the Laserderm Clinic in Claregalway and have undergone a number of different treatments during that time starting with the laser hair removal. This is a treatment I’d seriously recommend anyone to do, men and women, as it really does pay off in the long term. Just think six to seven treatments of laser and you’ll never ever have to suffer the pain of waxing again or use razors again. There are many areas that can be zapped including bikini line, underarm, lower legs, and upper lip, and there are also combination packages.

Last week, I was at the launch of a great idea by The Three Gorges Oriental Restaurant in Abbey Trinity, Tuam. Their idea is to bring authentic Chinese restaurant food to your home if you are having an event such as a 21st party or indeed any birthday, anniversary, confirmation, Communion, a wedding with a difference, or perhaps the afters of a wedding party. Traditionally there have been other options available such as cold meat platters, cold fish platters, beef stroganoff, chicken curry, and I am sure most readers have had these types of dishes at many functions. The possibility of having your favourite Chinese food at an event will, I believe, appeal to many.
To make people aware of what level of quality they would bring to your home the owners of the Three Gorges, Kee and Cindy, invited about 250 people to the biggest Chinese banquet I have seen since I was at the Chinese New Year’s celebration in Kings Inns many years ago. In fact, comparing this event to the one in Dublin, there was a much bigger variety of food in Tuam. I counted at least 25 main courses, all served in big warming dishes, and which the team of chefs in the kitchen replenished as needed. My favourite dishes were the salt and chilli king prawns, the udon noodles, and the incredible Peking duck which was the meatiest I have ever eaten. The people around me were mopping up plates of General Tso’s chicken, spare ribs, spring rolls, sliced beef in Cantonese sauce, and for those who prefer the more traditional fare, they had a beautifully decorated and presented poached whole salmon with all the usual salads.
