Eldercare, childcare, family commitments, and illness can get in the way or become a noble priority. Janet Yellen, the popular American economist, believed that long-term unemployment can make any worker progressively less employable, even after the economy strengthens. Explaining gaps on a CV is always a discussion point in career coaching. If the time has come when you can concentrate on yourself, there is one facility in Galway among others that can offer a stepping stone.

Thu, Jan 11, 2018

The Universal is a small bar with its sights set on craft beers and cocktails. Located in the West End district of Galway city, it complements the alternative nature of the area with its idiosyncratic menus and drink selection. It opened in 2016 in the premises that was previously The Old Forge and never have two pubs been more different from each other. Conor Lynam opened The Universal Bar just down from his other great success, the Bierhaus. Will Galway beat Mayo?

Thu, Jan 11, 2018

The rivalry between Galway and Mayo is as old as the provincial championship itself. The Connacht GAA Council was actually founded on the same day that Galway and Mayo contested the first ‘official’ Connacht senior football final. That game was played in Claremorris in November 1902 and was won by Mayo. Galway played “with the wind and the incline” in the first half while the vast crowd agreed to “keep strictly outside the field of play”, something the organisers clearly regarded as an unexpected bonus.

People of The Tribes : Meet John

Fri, Jan 05, 2018

Hi, I'm John Jennings from Galway City. I am an award-winning filmmaker and artist and I have been exhibited nationally and internationally. My art has two modes: Manga (a form of Japanese drawing) and abstract metamodern images. Sometimes I use technology, such as QR Codes or virtual games, to exhibit my art. Even though I have been exhibited globally, nothing gives me a greater sense of pride than walking past a local art space and seeing my art exhibited there. I have lived in Galway all my life and I love the way culture in Galway is constantly developing and changing, yet somehow, it has the same feeling about it. I like the Anime, Manga and Cosplay culture of Galway. It is great how the tech hubs and businesses interact with the art world. No matter what you are into there is a Tribe in Galway for you.
