Back in Connemara for Christmas, which she insisted on calling Christ Mass, Ethel Mannin opens the door of her little cottage, located between Roundstone and Clifden, close to Mannin Bay. She has been away for some time. She lights fires in all three rooms, to drive away the musty smell and damp, and soon she is comfortable sitting by the window looking out at the sea, the mountains beyond. She was back to stay until restlessness, or some political challenge, calls her away again.

Galway City Comhairle na nÓg is a youth council for young people aged 12 to 17 years in education in or living in Galway city. In 2020 the committee worked on the topic of mental health, as voted on at the AGM in 2019.
This year has been an especially difficult year for everyone, and in particular for young people, managing the interactions between online schoolwork, friendships, and family were a struggle that many young people found difficult to deal with. These difficulties were magnified by the isolation and disruption caused by Covid-19.

The Joyces finally arrived in Zurich on 17 December 1940 exhausted after weeks of torturous negotiations with the German, Vichy-French and Swiss authorities. They had sought refuge in Switzerland during World War I, now they hoped to do so again. To add to the stress of it all they had to leave their daughter Lucia behind in a psychiatric hospital in Brittany which was behind German lines. Joyce hoped that once settled in Zurich he could use all the influence he could muster to have her follow them to safety.

It is heart-warming to see the Galway Senior Camogie Team travelling to Croke Park on Saturday to play an All-Ireland final against Kilkenny, so, to honour the team of 2020, we thought to show you the team of 1937 who, having beaten Sligo in the Connacht final, went on to beat Antrim in Killester in the semi-final of that year. The score in the game was Galway 5 – 0 to Antrim’s 3 – 3.

Joe Howley, Officer Commanding Number One Brigade IRA Galway was killed leaving what is now Heuston Station, Dublin on December 4 1920, and was pronounced dead at 12.30 a.m. December 5 in George V Hospital Dublin.

Aoife Ni Eochaidh, chartered physiotherapist, provides face to face, phone, and video call physiotherapy for pelvic floor muscle treatment for bladder and bowel incontinence from her clinic in Suite 14, Bon Secours Consultant Clinic in Renmore. She also treats sexual dysfunction, prolapse, post-natal pelvic conditions, and osteoporosis. People can choose to have their pelvic physiotherapy consultation by regular phone call, Zoom, WhatsApp, etc, or to attend in person. Patients can get a referral from their GP or self-refer.
Most Irish health insurance companies provide some cover for pelvic physiotherapy and, if needed, also they provide some cover for pelvic physiotherapy electrotherapy devices. Physiotherapy being an essential service, the clinic remains open during the pandemic, but is strictly adhering to Government guidelines. Letters are issued to patients travelling to the clinic to attend appointments.
