Thu, Sep 15, 2022

In 2021 international brand Komandor saw a huge increase in homeowners transforming their smallest bedroom into a spacious walk-in wardrobe – and in ireland that was the pokey awkward box room. Using the spare small bedroom as a walk in wardrobe creates more space in your bedroom, keeps you organised, and makes putting the laundry away an easier task. The clothes you own are right in front of you, making it a lot easier to put looks together.

More than 100 men were employed, some coming from as far away as Renvyle and further, at a handsome wage of seven to 10 shillings a week, turning rough, soggy land, only good for shooting wild fowl and for fishing in its nearby lakes, into a magnificent building. Today it stands more like a palace than a castle, and is still a show-stopper on the Letterfrack road.

Horse trading in Eyre Square

Thu, Sep 08, 2022

One of the earliest associations of Eyre Square with the horse was the jousting competitions that went on there in the middle ages. There were also horse fairs held in the Square where one could buy and sell horses, these were usually held outside the railings and on the streets. Before motorised machinery was invented, the horse provided people with their main type of transport: the work horse was an invaluable part of the farm used to pull the plough or haul the farmer and his cartload of produce into town. Horse racing was always a popular sport and the first Galway Horse Show was held in the Square in 1892.

As well as the human cost, the economic burden of diabetes on the Irish health care system is becoming a major challenge for the government and the HSE.

Being overweight or obese is a major risk factor in developing type 2 diabetes. By helping people to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle, Slimming World can dramatically reduce a member’s chances of developing type 2 diabetes and can help members to manage their condition.
