The MBA at University of Galway’s JE Cairnes School of Business & Economics is one of the leading MBA programmes in the country. With more than 650 graduates to date numbering among the leaders in their field, it was awarded five years' AMBA accreditation this year, the highest level available from this global mark of excellence for MBA education.

During the academic year 2022-2023, the university celebrates 50 years of the MBA. The programme team have planned an exciting series of events, engaging with current and future challenges and opportunities facing Irish and global business and society.

Today (Thursday ), from 6pm to 8pm, the first event takes place: a masterclass with MBA alumni on the topic of: Supply Chains in Crisis? Alumni, staff, current students and all connected with University of Galway’s MBA are welcome to attend at MY243 Lecture Theatre, Áras Moyola.

This event will engage with changes over the past year that have seen businesses struggle to cope with increasing uncertainty in supply chains, products, and prices. Even as backlogs clear, costs remain high, and security elusive. Sustainability is a pressing concern, as is resilience against future shocks. Panellists will discuss the challenges for leaders across all sectors, particularly in the west of Ireland, and will debate the alternatives and opportunities these changes bring.

The panel will include recent alumni: Ciaran McGovern, managing director, Tobin Consulting Engineers (MBA 2018 ); Ciara Greaney, group operations director at CMS Distribution (MBA 2020 ); and Peter Kehoe, site purchasing manager, Boston Scientific (MBA 2019 ). Dr Sinéad Mitchell, assistant professor in sustainability and strategy at JE Cairnes School of Business and Economics, will contribute expertise in new practices around supply chain sustainability and circular economy.

The event is chaired by MBA programme director, Professor Kate Kenny, an alumna of University of Galway’s Engineering School (1998 ). Professor Kenny commented: “We are honoured to welcome MBA graduates of this calibre back on campus, and are delighted they are willing to share their experiences, insights, and thoughts for the future on this critical and pressing issue for Irish and global businesses. We are also looking forward to seeing past students and meeting new faces.”

The coming months sees a range of events focused on topics from entrepreneurship and the west of Ireland’s drinks industry (November ), global leaders emerging from Galway’s MBA (January ), and leadership in the med-tech sector (March ), followed by a celebratory conference and gala dinner in May.
