Insulate now with €1,123 grant available
Thu, Jun 06, 2019
With the Government grant still in place, West Coast Insulation is recommending homeowners take advantage of the current grant scheme which takes €1,123 directly off the price of home insulation. This usually covers a large percentage of the overall cost of the work and is the highest grant amount that has been available for cavity wall and attic insulation. Homeowners can contact the Galway company for a free quotation for cavity wall and attic insulation. West Coast Insulation, which has been in business since 2009, will look after all application forms to make the process as simple as possible for homeowners.
When insulating a house, the company injects EcoBead Platinum Bonded Bead in the cavity walls, even when there is existing aerobord insulation. This significantly improves the heat retention and also fills in any gaps in the older insulation. The company keeps the injection holes closer together to ensure the walls are filled 100 per cent and that the bead is packed as tightly as possible. The company installs Knauf rolled insulation in the attics.

The inside walls were whitewashed to keep them clean and also disinfected. Barrels were stored against the back wall and sometimes used as seating with planks on top. One had to be careful when entering as there was a small step down just inside the door, and if you missed it and staggered, you were likely to hear Mrs Martyn say, “Go back to where you came from, you have enough in already”. Johnny Martyn was a blacksmith and he had a forge attached to the pub where he shod horses, made gates, etc.
