This year marks the 10th anniversary of Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe. Over the past decade the school has grown from simple beginnings to a substantial music education provider in the city. It has already trained almost 20 new teachers for the city with professional diplomas, and another 200 primary school teachers have been certified in new and exciting ways to work with students.
The school currently operates from its base in the Presentation National School and in its satellite school Scoil Mhuire in Moycullen. Between them there are more than 20 staff providing 400 budding young musicians with instrumental lessons, and almost 1,200 more on its Colourstrings outreach programme, teaching music in primary schools. This year, with the help of funding from the Lifes2Good Foundation the school is planning to build a multi-campus platform that will see lessons rolled out right across the city, for children on both sides of the Corrib, from September 2020.

The year 1967 saw a great change in Galway as the industrial estate was being developed as a result of the Government’s decision to designate Galway as a development location, a place which would be the commercial, financial, educational, health, social, and administrative centre of the region.
