When this young romantic man, already with an image of an ‘Irish Ireland’ in his mind, stepped from the train at Maam Cross station, he had a life-changing realisation that this was ‘a little Gaelic kingdom of its own’.

A major manufacturer of workstations reports that 86 per cent of work computer users have to sit all day, and when they do rise from sitting, more than half (56 per cent) use food as the excuse to get up and move. In addition to sitting at work, for meals, and commuting to/from work, 36 per cent sit another one to two hours watching TV, 10 per cent sit one to two hours for gaming, 25 per cent sit one to two hours for reading/lounging, and 29 per cent use their home computer for one to two hours. In summary, the average Irish person sits for 9.5 hours a day and sleep for eight hours. That's a total of 17.5 hours a day off their feet.

NUI Galway is calling on scientists and science enthusiasts to enter FameLab, the world’s largest science communication competition held in 30 countries. For the ninth year running, one of four regional FameLab Ireland heats will take place virtually in Galway on Thursday, June 10.
With science becoming increasingly specialised, those working in the field can struggle to explain their projects to colleagues, let alone to the general public. The FameLab competition, an initiative of the Cheltenham Science Festival, recognises this and challenges up and coming scientists, engineers, and mathematicians to explain a complex idea in a simple and engaging way.

Aran Islands Ferries, Ireland’s largest and longest operating year round ferry service to the Aran Islands launches a brand new Aran Islands route from Galway City Docks to Inis Mór inclusive of a cruise along the Cliffs of Moher, on Friday June 4.
As part of the new route announcement, the company has announced that ‘Saoirse na Farraige – Freedom of the Sea’, a state of the art, purpose built, 400 seater passenger ferry, will join five other high quality vessels in carrying passengers on this new seasonal route complementing the existing business from Ros a’Mhíl. The new route will have a departure time of 9.30am daily from Galway City Docks to Inis Mór.
