Revitalised by being back in-person again, the Galway Film Fleadh came to a stunning end on Sunday night with an awards ceremony held before the closing film, the Ukrainian-made Carol of the Bells.
Carol of the Bells is the story of three families – Ukrainian, Polish, and Jewish – who lived in the same building in Stanislaviv in Ukraine between 1938 and 1944. All three families disappeared one by one, leaving their children in the building. The last one to disappear was a Ukrainian woman who was a teacher of music.

Returning in-person this year to the Galway Film Fleadh is the annual Pitching Competition. Ten finalists have been selected to pitch their idea as an ‘Elevator Pitch’ of 90 seconds, in front of an audience and a panel of industry judges on the closing day of the Galway Film Fleadh.
The ten finalists are: Jason Branagan for his horror film Crooked; Maeve Keane for her coming-of- age drama Emer; Brendan Boland for his heist romance Falling In Love Again; Conor Dowling for his drama The Family Band; Maureen O’Connell for her drama Haven; Megan Elle Day’s dramedy Late for the Sky; Eannai O Sullivan for her drama My Big Day Out; Nick Kelly for his drama The Sea Lion; Sean Mullan for his drama The Siege Of Tory Island and Ruth Earley for her psychological drama Wild Atlantic.

With only a few days to go before the gates of Galway Racecourse open to welcome hundreds of vintage and classic cars, tractors, motorbikes, steam engines and much more, it already promises to be the biggest show held in Ireland in 2022. So far there are over twenty vintage and classic clubs from all over Ireland registered to display – as well as the local Western Veteran & Vintage Motor Club and Kiltulla & District Vintage Club, there are clubs travelling from as far away as Carlow, Limerick, Kilkenny, Dublin, Meath, Louth and Donegal. Making the trip west for Classic Fest, these clubs will bring with them an array of cars and exhibits, including displays of individual marques like the Ford Cortina, Jaguar, Ford Capri, Toyota, TVR as well as the Mercedes-Benz Club, who have the largest stand space reserved for fifty cars.
