Nanci Griffith returns to the Town Hall

NANCI GRIFFITH one of the best loved country singers in the world, who also enjoys a devoted fan-base in Ireland, plays the Town Hall Theatre on Friday March 2.

The Texan has recorded 19 albums, since her debut release There’s A Light Beyond These Woods in 1978 and she has also won Grammy awards for her music, most notably for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 1994 for Other Voices, Other Rooms, which was produced by singer-songwriter and sometime Galway resident Jim Rooney.

Mister Ebby release debut album

PIANIST AND composer Eamon Brett, who goes under the stage-name of Miser Ebby, has released his debut album Wires.

The album features 12 pieces of music, all written by Eamon Brett. Eamon sings and plays piano, glockenspiel, melodica, and ‘piano percussion noises’ on Wires. Also on the album are vocalist Méadhbh Sullivan; Karl Hand (drums), Aongus MacAmhlaigh (cello), George Guilfoyle (bass), Nellie Murphy (voice), along with backing vocals from Kevin, Laura, Caoimhe, and Éanna Brett and Ed Moran.

THE MUSIC of Mozart will be performed in Galway next weekend, across two concerts and a film screening, celebrating the genius of the man Albert Einstein called “the greatest composer of all”.

Entitled The Genius Of Mozart, the concerts will take place in the Aula Maxima of NUI Galway and feature Norwegian violinist Marianna Thorsen and two Britons - pianist Viv McLean and cellist Alice Neary, who plays an Alessandro Gagliano cello of 1710.

Mask workshop with Miquel Barcelo

CORE THEATRE College will host a mask making workshop with the actor Miquel Barcelo in the Blue Teapot Theatre company, Munster Avenue.

The workshop will take place on Saturday March 3 and Sunday 4 from 10am to 5pm. The masks will be designed in the commedie dell’arte tradition and will take actors out of their comfort zone through improvisation, direct contact with the audience, and the mask.
