Newton Faulkner - going against the grain

NOTHING ABOUT Newton Faulker is orthodox; neither his guitar style, his route to the instrument, the path that led him to become a songwriter, nor the making of his last album. It has done no harm though - the Englishman one of the most visible acoustics guitarists of recent years.

The guitar skills and the songs which have made his name will be on display in Galway next month when Newton plays a ‘Róisín Dubh presents...’ concert at the Seapoint Ballroom, Salthill, on Saturday February 8 at 8pm.

SCRATCH SCRIPTS, an evening of readings of extracts from new scripts by a range of writers, takes place at the Town Hall Theatre studio this Sunday at 7pm.

MOSAIC, A creative arts class which seeks to promote critical and creative thinking in children through education and artistic instruction, will be held in the Galway Art Centre.

The classes, aimed at five to 12-year-olds, takes a hands-on approach to learning with a focus on problem solving and self-expression. Pupils will also engage with the group exhibition, Nine, which opens this weekend at the Galway Arts Centre, and which looks at what it is like to be nine years old.
