Amit Mediratta to launch his collection of writings

Artist and philosopher Amit Mediratta will launch his 13th collection of writings, Exile Songs and other Poems, in Charlie Byrne's Bookshop next week. The collection will gather together work previously published at his exhibition openings in limited quantity, and will be the first definitive edition of his early poetry - beautifully presented on vellum paper and hand-signed in silver ink. The title will be produced by Amit Mediratta Publications, the imprint established by the artist last year.

Olaf Tyaransen for Electric Picnic

Galway-based author and Hot Press journalist Olaf Tyaransen will be performing and conducting public interviews at the Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally at the end of the month. The acclaimed author – described by the Sunday Independent as “demonstrably the best rock ‘n’ roll interviewer in the world”- will be reading on The Word Stage in the Mindfield area at 7pm on Friday August 30, and again on Sunday September 1.

Among the original material he will be reading from his short story Don’t You Know Who I Am? The story was first published earlier this year in the Doire Press anthology Galway Stories, and is now set to become a short film, produced by Dublin-based company Screenworks. Tyaransen’s third collection of celebrity interviews, Mind The GAP, will be published in October, with all proceeds going to Galway Autism Partnership.

Lights and wonderful music at Claregalway Castle

There was an air of abandonment and fun in Claregalway last Saturday evening as the International Summer Music School and Festival came to a glorious end.

To hear ‘The Fields of Athenry’ played by a full orchestra, and sung at full pitch by the audience and participants, lifted the spirits. It had all the energy of the famous Last Night at the Proms, only it was not in the Royal Albert Hall, London, but within the grandeur of Claregalway Castle.
