We have a great community in the west of Ireland of meditation stations, yoga rooms and relaxation therapy centres, all which can add to the essential tools needed when it comes to running a successful business. In the same way that we exercise and watch our nutrition to keep in good shape you’ll find that meditation is a key factor in running a healthy company.
This is especially true in the current economical climate which can be poor performing, competitive in a dog eat dog manner and stressful. The main focus for many business owners in this present moment is how to pay the rent, balance the books, increase footfall and bring their business to a point of strength in a recession. Q: My son is in Transition Year, but he hasn’t a clue what he wants to do after school. But property is a tough game now so I’m reluctant to suggest estate management to him as a career. What should I do to help him make an informed decision? (Mary, email)

Q: I’m going for an interview next week with a man who can only be described as self-made, metaphorically speaking. He started out with nothing, built his business up from a humble start, minded it carefully, and it’s still doing very well despite the economic conditions. He’s a notoriously difficult man to impress: but over the years he has brought some trusted lieutenants on board. All of them swear by him. He looks after them very well. I want to become one. Any advice? (Luke, email)

KBC Bank Ireland this week opened its newest retail banking hub on Eyre Square in Galway City. The retail hub will be managed by Keith McDonagh who will oversee the team. KBC’s office on Dock Road will remain open for corporate banking customers.
