Kris Drever and Julie Fowlis to play Clifden

Concert to kickstart series of events to mark 40th anniversary of Clifden Arts Festival

TWO GIANTS of modern folk music, Kris Driver, called "a serious talent" by MOJO, and award winning Scots-Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis, play Clifden to kick-starting a programme of events to mark 40 years of the Clifden Arts Festival.

The festival celebrates its 40th birthday in September, and will be the first in the Clifden40 events leading up to the festival itself. The concert takes place on Monday January 23 at 8pm in the Clifden Station House Theatre.

Described by Q as "the standard bearer" of the folk music revival, singer-guitarist Kris Drever is from the Orkneys and is a member of the award-winning avant-folk trio Lau. He will be joined by Julie Fowlis, whose singing has been called "sublime" by The Observer. They will be joined by multi-award winning fiddler Aoife Ní Bhriain, renowned for her technical virtuosity across both traditional and classical music, and concertina player Padraig Rynne whose ensembles Guidewires, Dán, and Triad have re-defined the boundaries of Irish trad.

The concert is organsied by Music Network in association with The Clifden Arts Festival Arts Society. Tickets are available at the door or at www.clifdenartsfestival.ie
