Sir William Wilde.

Sir William Wilde.

SIR WILLIAM WILDE, the father of Oscar Wilde, will be the subject of a public lecture in the Galway City Museum next week.

Gerard Hanberry, author of More Lives Than One... The Remarkable Wilde Family Through The Generations, will give a lecture entitled Westward Ho!, With William Wilde in the Galway City Museum on Thursday October 16 from 7pm to 8pm.

Sir William Wilde was born in Roscommon in 1815 and although he eventually settled in Dublin where he became a prominent surgeon, he retained a strong affinity for the west of Ireland, writing the celebrated book, Lough Corrib its Shores and Islands. This lecture will examine Wilde’s passion for Connacht.

All are welcome to the event and there will be a Q&A with Mr Hanberry afterwards. For more information contact 091 - 532460 or [email protected].
