Jerry Marjoram to exhibit in Kenny’s

MARJORAM, A collection of new and retrospective paintings by Jerry Marjoram opens in The Kenny Gallery, tomorrow at 6pm.

Born in the Liberties in 1936, Jerry has been creating pictures, paintings, and drawings from a young age.

“I was first introduced to art at the age of seven, when a group of business people in our area opened a boys’ club,” he recalls. “This club was manned by a couple of students from Trinity College, a couple of tradesmen, and a student from the National College of Art. From my first art lesson I was hooked.”

Jerry received further inspiration from the works he saw in a local art gallery.

“I found inspiration in Combridge's Art Gallery,” he says. “There were two windows in Grafton Street and three in Duke Street full of paintings by Ireland’s leading artists and a huge gallery upstairs. I would study the paintings for hours, go home and paint them from memory.”

The Dubliner later went to the National College of Art and by 1970 the demand for his paintings was such that he was able to become a full-time artist.

The guest speaker at the launch will be Brendan Flynn. The exhibition continues daily, 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Saturdays, until September 10. Admission is free and all are welcome.
