Alien pop at Spirit of Voice

‘ALIEN POP’ and avant garde electronica will be the order of the day when electro-duo Nanu Nanu take to the stage of An Taibhdhearc for the Spirit of Voice festival.

Nanu Nanu are Mirrorman and Glitterface and they use analogue and modular synthesisers teamed with a strong foundation of heavy beats and lush, otherworldly, vocal processing, to create their exciting sound.

The duo will headline Saturday’s Spirit of Voice events which kick off at 8.30pm and see a diverse line-up of acts take to the Taibhdhearc stage. Orlagh De Bhaldraithe, musical director with Macnas, will perform her own original songs; Cork rap trio, The Good Vibe Society, will make their debut Galway appearance at the festival; and Galway actresses Helen Gregg and Debbie Wright will be the MCs for the evening.

The 2012 Spirit of Voice Festival takes place in An Taibhdhearc and begins tomorrow at 8.30pm with sets from Wildflowers (Noelie McDonnell, Nicola Joyce, Norianna Kennedy ); folk singer Fia Rua; dancer/singer Penelapai; and sean nos singer Orlath Ní Mheachair.

Sunday’s show at 8pm will be headlined by the great Little John Nee and also feature performances by folk-pop singer Miriam Donohue and the gifted guitarist Tom Portman.

The festival will also host vocal workshops on Saturday afternoon with Galway born, Dublin based, avant garde singer-songwriter Laura Sheeran; Cork rappers Brosy, D’beats, and Mickey Gatch, and Mallika McCarthy. See the festival website for more details.
