Keith Duffy to star in Druid’s next major production

BOYZONE SINGER and former Coronation Street star Keith Duffy will be among the cast members for Druid’s next big production - John B Keane’s Big Maggie.

Big Maggie will be staged in the Town Hall Theatre from November 11 to 19 and in the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin from November 21 to 26.

Set in 1960s rural Ireland, Big Maggie portrays a woman who is determined to take control of her life following the death of her husband. In its discussion of money, land, and sex, the play shocked audiences when it was first staged in 1969.

Aisling O’Sullivan will play the title role of Big Maggie while Keith Duffy, in what will be his Druid debut, will play one of Keane’s most memorable characters, the lusty commercial traveller Teddy Heelin. The cast will also feature Paul Connaughton, Charlie Murphy, Amy Molloy, Sarah Greene, John Olohan, and Joan Sheehy.

Rehearsals will commence in October. The play will be directed by Garry Hynes. This will be Druid’s fourth Keane production following Sive (2002 ), Sharon’s Grave (2003 ), and The Year of the Hiker (2006 ).
