City to hold its first potters’ market

Galwegians will have an opportunity to get hands on and up close with pottery makers at the city’s first potters market, which takes place next week.

The potters market will take place in the courtyard of the Galway City Museum on Thursday July 21 from 10am to 7pm and feature potters and ceramic artists displaying and selling their work.

There will be demonstrations by the makers and a chance for everyone to make a clay figure as part of a field of 10,000 for the Pitch for Shane Appeal, commemorating Shane Geoghegan, who died tragically last year.

The organisers, Juliet Ball and Stephen Price, aim to focus public attention on the Year of Crafts 2011 and the quality and diversity of Irish ceramics during Galway Arts Festival
