Guitar, farewells, and French flair @ Róisín Dubh

OCTOBER STARTS tomorrow and is a feast if you are a comedy and/or theatre fan with both the Galway Comedy Festival and Galway Theatre Festival taking place.

The Róisín Dubh will hold many Galway Comedy Festival events but if you are a music fan it’s the Dominick Street venue’s November line-up that will really grab your attention.

First of all it’s a piece of good and bad news. The good news is that Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, the excellent lo-fi electro-indie project of singer-songwriter Owen Ashworth, makes a welcome return to Galway to play upstairs on Sunday November 7 at 9pm.

The sad news is that this is Owen’s farewell tour so do not miss the chance to catch a wonderful talent live.

Guitar fans have plenty to look forward to as two of the most daring, imaginative, and dexterous acoustic guitarists in the business play the Róisín. French-Algerian guitarist Pierre Bensusan plays on Monday 8 at 9pm while Preston Reed plays on Friday 19 at 8pm.

There will be plebty of Gallic flair and sexiness when Parisenne band Nouvelle Vague play on Saturday 13 at 8pm. Their previous gig at the Róisín was a stormer so expect another night of clever and fun reinventions of punk and new wave classics in a bossa nova/jazz/pop style.

Tickets are available from the Róisín Dubh and Zhivago.
