Triathlon returns

Following the explosion of interest in triathlon the Tri3 Series Galway city triathlon was launched this week.

The Galway race will be the first of three in a series of races around the country. It is expected to attract 750 competitors, with a benefit of more than €250,000 to the city.

The race is open to all levels, offering a chance to follow the course of the river 750m from Dangan to the Jes boat club, followed by a flat fast 20km cycle, and a 5km run taking in city streets and canal paths.

The Galway race is part of a series including Cahir and Kilrush; participants can compete in one or all of the races.

Commenting at the launch, Tony Griffin of Tri3 said: “We are delighted to bring these events to Ireland and to see an injection into each local economy as a result of the races. The locations are great and we look forward to exciting events in Galway, Cahir and Kilrush.”

International interest in the Galway race has been building steadily over recent weeks with registrations from as far afield as Canada, Spain and Australia.

Tri3 Triathlon Series will donate a percentage of all entries to the Alan Kerins Africa Projects.
