The Irish Red Cross offers a range of courses designed to comply with health and safety legislation regarding first aid in the workplace.
The Irish Red Cross is an accredited HSA and Occupational First Aid Assessment Agent occupational first aid training provider and the syllabus for OFA training is as required by the HSA.
The organisation offers a three day course in occupational first aid leading to recognition as an occupational first aider as required under health and safety legislation. Course modules include first aid in the workplace; casualty assessment; respiratory emergencies; cardiac first response; wounds and bleeding; altered levels of consciousness; musculoskeletal injuries; and burns, scalds, chemicals, poisons, and electric shock. On successful completion, participants receive both an Irish Red Cross letter of completion and a FETAC certificate
A one-day occupational first aid refresher course leads to renewed qualification for people who have previously secured an occupational first aid certificate, which expires after two years. The refresher course will refresh their skills and renew their certification as required under health and safety legislation. On successful completion, participants receive both an Irish Red Cross letter of completion and a FETAC certificate.
The one-day course in emergency first aid leads to an Irish Red Cross certificate signifying an understanding of key first aid situations and their treatment. It will enable participants to act as a back up to occupational first aiders in an occupational setting and/or respond to an emergency prior to the arrival of more qualified personnel. Topics covered include an introduction to first aid; casualty assessment; heart disease; CPR and choking in adults; wounds and bleeding; altered levels of consciousness; musculoskeletal injuries; burns; and poisons.
All of these courses can be arranged for groups in your premises or the Red Cross premises, and public courses are held regularly for individuals. Visit www.redcross.ie/first aid training for a full calendar of courses available.
