Roesy will play Monroe's

Following his set at Electric Picnic, Birr singer-songwriter Roesy will perform at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, September 13, at 7pm, after almost ten years away from the stage.

The Offaly-born artist, who has eight albums behind him, brings a renewed voice and perspective shaped by decades of musical experience.

Roesy first emerged in the early 1990s, busking on the streets of Ireland and Europe before moving onto the Irish and international touring circuit.

His career has seen him navigate both the independence of self-released records and the structures of labels and publishing, experiences he describes as a “full immersion” in the life of a working musician.

Following the release of Wolf Counsel in 2016, Roesy took an extended break from performing.

In January 2025, he began documenting his return, sharing vlogs on his RoesyMusic YouTube channel, and uploading raw demos of new songs to Bandcamp subscribers.

His aim, he says, is to strip the process back to something direct and sustainable. The new material reflects on contemporary themes, exploring propaganda and manipulation.

These observations are paired with the intimacy of his trademark voice and guitar style. His return to Galway follows a stripped-back set at this year’s Electric Picnic, followed by a run of intimate shows around Ireland.

Roesy released his debut album Sketch the Day, Paint the Night in 2001 on his own label, Blue Cloak Records.

This was followed by The Spirit Store (2003 ) and Only Love is Real (2004 ). Over the years he has shared stages with Bert Jansch, Ron Sexsmith, Billy Bragg, and Shane MacGowan.

With new songs in progress, and live dates ahead, do not miss a chance to catch Roesy at Monroe’s Live in the intimate surrounds of the Backstage venue on Saturday, September 13, at 7pm.
