Reunited Big Country return

Scottish rock band Big Country will make their highly-anticipated return to Galway on Saturday, August 30, as part of their 2025 international Eastworld tour, with doors open at Monroe's Live at 7.30pm.

The tour will see Bruce Watson, Jamie Watson, Tommie Paxton, Chris Stones, and Reece Dobbin perform tracks from their upcoming album Eastworld, set for release later this year, alongside their classic hits.

Formed in Dunfermline in 1981 by Stuart Adamson and Watson, Big Country achieved international success with the 1983 album The Crossing, which featured the hit singles ,Fields of Fire', 'Chance', and 'In a Big Country'.

The record sold over two million copies worldwide, and earned three Grammy nominations in the US.

The run of success continued throughout the 1980s, and in 1985, Big Country appeared at Live Aid in London.

Described by the Rolling Stones as “one of the best opening bands we ever had,” they supported the rock giants on two European tours.

They also performed at Glastonbury, had a host of top ten singles internationally and enjoyed total record sales of over five million, with gold and platinum selling hits.

Sadly, the tragic death of Stuart Adamson in 2001 changed the course of Big Country, putting the band on hiatus, as they mourned the sudden loss of this creative force and friend. They took an extended break before returning to live performance.

“When we are playing it is as if we never stopped,” says Watson of the band’s reunion.

“Stuart will be there with us every night, in our thoughts, in our words, and in our hearts.”

Now, they are back, and remain one of Scotland’s most iconic rock bands, known for their fusion of post-punk, new wave, and Scottish folk influences.

Support on the night is from Pistol Daisys.
