The Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB ) hosted its annual apprenticeship information day on Thursday, February 27, in the Salthill Hotel. The event drew an impressive crowd of students, teachers and parents eager to explore the vast opportunities available through an apprenticeship.
Throughout the day, attendees had the unique opportunity to engage directly with the GRETB team, current apprentices, and employers actively recruiting apprentices in the region. These interactions provided invaluable insights into the benefits of apprenticeships, which offer hands-on experience, financial support while learning, and nationally and internationally recognised qualifications from Level 5 to Level 10 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
With 77 career paths available, the event highlighted both traditional apprenticeships in fields such as plumbing, carpentry and joinery, metal fabrication, motor mechanics and Electrical, as well as new Generation Apprenticeships. Generation Apprenticeship programmes cater to industries such as arboriculture, ICT, hospitality and food, finance, engineering, hairdressing, logistics and services, auctioneering, and biopharma, broadening the scope of career possibilities for aspiring apprentices.
Beyond career guidance, GRETB ensures comprehensive learner support for apprentices, including assistance with reading and comprehension, writing and spelling, mathematics, and study skills. These supports are designed to help apprentices succeed in their chosen fields and maximise their potential.
The enthusiasm and engagement at the event underscored the growing recognition of apprenticeships as a viable and rewarding career path.
