Fibín welcomes you to Baile Beag Mór

A world premiere to open Fíbín’s first season in residence in An Taibhdhearc

A WORLD premiere by artistic director Philip Doherty will open Fíbín’s first season in residence in Ireland’s national Irish language theatre, An Taibhdhearc.

Baile Beag Mór sees Doherty partner with award winning set designer Sabine Dargent, and an experienced ensemble cast, including Sorcha Fox, Seamus Hughes, and Ann-Marie Horan, alongside new talents Martha Dunlea, Gearóid Kavanagh, and Ruairí Heading, in a soaring new show where a mystery plays out into a noir-style thriller with a live jazz band.

This darkly comic thriller centres on the soulful Patrick who goes on a journey into his family’s past, unearthing dark family secrets. His quest brings him back to the 1920s where his grandfather escaped the Irish Civil War to Prohibition America, the Jazz Age, and an Irish language speakeasy in New York.

Baile Beag Mór opens on Thursday March 24 (previews on March 22 and 23. It will form part of a programme of eight world premieres by new writers, including site-specific shows across Gaeltacht beaches, and the opening of a new music bar/café venue at An Taibhdhearc.
