Communication boards to be installed in city playgrounds

Boards are aimed at helping those who are either pre-verbal or non-verbal and/our have communication difficulties

The Galway City Council has confirmed that communication boards will be installed in a number of playgrounds later in 2021 and in early 2022.

This initiative was proposed by Cllr Eddie Hoare and he has allocated part of his local area funding towards the delivery of this project.

The boards are primarily a communications support, with particular benefit to children or adults who are either pre-verbal or non-verbal and/or have communication difficulties.

Cllr Hoare said: “These boards allow children who are non-verbal or have challenges communicating to express themselves, increasing inclusion and independence. I welcome the recent rollout and look forward to seeing more boards rolled out in 2022.”
