Hoare urges B&Bs to apply for new Restart Grant

City councillor describes measure as 'a very welcome intervention'

Hundreds of B&B owners across Galway city and county will be entitled to a grant of up to €4,000 to help them re-open following the lockdown necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new measure, announced as part of the Govern men's July Stimulus package, is being administered by Fáilte Ireland. Fine Gael Galway City Central councillor Eddie Hoare has described the grant as "a very welcome intervention" and he is urging all non-rated B&B owners to apply.

'I expect this intervention will promote more local spending'

Cllr Hoare said he also hopes the new Stay and Spend incentive will provide a further boost to the hospitality sector. Stay and Spend will allow any taxpayer a tax credit on spending up to €625 on accommodation, food, and non-alcoholic drinks between October 2020 and April 2021.

"I expect this intervention will promote more local spending," said Cllr Hoare, "and act as a direct support to this sector.”
