ONCE UPON A Bridge, the new play by Sonya Kelly, author of Furniture, the hit play of the 2018 Galway International Arts Festival, will be performed by Druid in February.
Once Upon A Bridge, starring Aaron Monaghan, Siobhán Cullen, and Adetomiwa Edun (Merlin, Bates Motel ), and directed by Sara Joyce, will be live streamed from The Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane, on Thursday February 11, Friday 12, and Saturday 13 at 7.30pm, with a matinee on February 13 at 2.30pm.
Early one morning on Putney Bridge, three strangers’ lives collided for one fleeting second. Inspired by real events, Once Upon A Bridge weaves a tale about human triumph and frailty, the power of destiny and chance, and why sometimes we choose to hate, and other times we choose to dance.
'A fairytale for a modern age'
"Druid will continue to present live theatre in whatever way possible," said Garry Hynes, Druid’s artistic director. "A new play from Sonya is terrific in any case, but to have her write something directly inspired by these extraordinary times is particularly exciting. We’re describing it as a fairytale for a modern age and I’m really looking forward to seeing our audiences response to it."
The director, Sara Joyce first worked with Druid as a director for the Druid Debut series in 2019. She has also worked with the National Theatre, The Yard, The Bush, and the Old Vic Theatre in London.
Tickets are €15 from Druid.ie Early Bird tickets are €12 and available until Friday January 29. Once Upon A Bridge will be presented in accordance with Government guidelines to ensure artist and staff safety.
