Lady Gregory to get the Druid treatment

Druid Theatre Company announce first post-lockdown live theatre events

IT HAPPENED with Tom Murphy, it happened with JM Synge, it happened with Shakespeare. Now it is the turn of one of the major lights of the Irish Literary Revival - Lady Gregory - to get a Druid cycle.

DruidGregory will see the internationally acclaimed Galway company perform six of Lady Gregory’s one-act plays in a variety of venues across Galway city and county throughout September and October, starting in Lady Gregory's own Coole Park in south Galway.

Tony Award-winner Garry Hynes will direct fellow Tony Award-winner Marie Mullen as Lady Gregory, along with Venetia Bowe, Megan Cusack, Peter Daly, Dónal Gallery, Liam Heslin, Garrett Lombard, Sarah Morris, Rory Nolan, John Olohan, Marty Rea, and musician Tim Doyle.

The plays include The Rising of the Moon, Hyacinth Halvey, The Gaol Gate, The Workhouse Ward, McDonough’s Wife, and the revolutionary Cathleen Ní Houlihan (written with WB Yeats ). The project will also include some of her poetry and other writings, as well as music, dance, and works by Yeats.
