Do you know what you are sleeping with?

Health is the most important of our needs, and is a priority for each and every one of us. The average person loses up to one pint of sweat every night while sleeping. What's more, we shed approximately 40,000 dead skin cells every minute, which equals nearly 20 million deadskin cells every night. If your mattress is not properly protected, these natural impurities are absorbed into the mattress.

Dust mites are microscopic spiders that feed on our dead skin cells and in an unprotected mattress there can be an accumulation of skin cells, dust mites, and their droppings, which cause eczema attacks as well as rhinitis or just an unrestful night’s sleep. Dust mites will drop between one and two pellets an hour.

Other things that can be found in bedding include animal hair, dander, fungal mold, fungal spores, bodily secretions, bacteria, dust, lint, fibres, particulates, insect parts, pollen, soil, sand, and cosmetics.

Philip M Tierno jr, director of clinical microbiology and immunology at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, advises to change sheets and pillowcases once a week, wash bedding in water 55 to 70 degrees, and dry them on high. He recommends protecting your mattress – without an impervious cover, your mattress is a “zoological and botanical garden”.

Using a quality mattress protector will help to keep your mattress healthy and hygienic and promote a better night’s sleep.
