Camogie final sets the scene in Croke Park

Galway will be represented in Croke Park for the league finals on Sunday with the county's senior camogie team.

Galway will face Kilkenny at 12 noon in the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie Leagues division 1 decider - the first of the day's triple header at Croke Park. The hurling decider Limerick v Waterford follows at 2pm, with the football division one final between Kerry and Mayo at 4pm.

Galway have enjoyed a solid campaign this season with wins over Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford, and a 2-7 to 0-13 draw with Cork to finish top of group two. But they will be up against it on Sunday when they face the doyens of camogie. Kilkenny, the only side unbeaten in the league, are looking for their fourth title in a row.

In Ann Dalton they boast the reigning Player of the Year Ann Dalton, and she will take some minding from the Galway defence.

Galway, however, also have fire power up front, with Carrie Dolan who has been in fine free-taking form, not to mention Niamh Kilkenny, Ailish O'Reilly and Noreen Coen.

The produced a powerful display against Limerick in the semi-final where Niamh Hanniffy, who has enjoyed a super start to the year for both county and the successful University of Limerick Ashbourne Cup team, carried on her goal-scoring run with an early major for Galway to lead by 1-2 to 0-0 after just four minutes.

Now only Galway stand in the Stripeywomen’s way of becoming just the third team to complete a four-in-a-row as a result of their sensational 2-14 to 0-4 defeat of Limerick at St Brendan’s Park.

Kilkenny will be favourites, but Cathal Murray's side have talent and experience to challenge that tag.
