Relentless Galway through to camogie final

Galway will face a tough challenge from Kilkenny when the two meet in the Camogie League division one final on March 24.

Kilkenny edged a 0-12 to 0-9 victory over rivals Cork in their semi-final to put themselves in position to complete a rare four-in-a-row, while Galway enjoyed a facile 2-14 to 0-4 victory over Limerick.

It was the fifth consecutive year Limerick fell at the penultimate hurdle as they limped to defeat against a powerful Galway side.

Galway's Niamh Hanniffy continued her fine form having helped the University of Limerick in their successful Ashbourne Cup campaign. An early goal ensured Galway to led by 1-2 to 0-0 after just four minutes.

And it did not get any better for the Shannonsiders. A rampant Galway posted four pointed frees by Carrie Dolan, a pair from play by Noreen Coen, in addition to points from Ailish O’Reilly and Niamh Kilkenny to extend their lead to 1-8 to 0-1 at half-time.

Galway keeper Sarah Healy denied Rebecca Delee a goal, and there was little reprieve for Limerick.

O’Reilly added Galway’s second goal mid-way through the second half as manager Cathal Murray gave his bench a run. O’Reilly finished with a goal and four points, while Ann Marie Starr and Coen also added scores in a comprehensive victory.
