Years ago, before Dominos had come to town and Papa Johns was not even invented, there were only two options for pizza, for two different stages of your life. Monroe’s in Dominick Street was our preference for a slice before children, a great pre– or post–pub spot. The Cellar has existed as a bar since the seventies when pubs were mostly for drinking in, and it was a more Bohemian place entirely then, a hotbed of music with Irish artists such as Mickey Finn and Frankie Gavin regularly playing there. It has changed hands a few times since then, in recent years becoming well known also as a casual restaurant which closed down at the end of 2010. It was not destined to stay closed for long and reopened in its current reincarnation in April 2011.

While we have compiled our own lists of where is best in Galway for fish and chips (Hooked), the best sandwich (Entrepans), pizza, fries, coffee, and more, for a long time even though almost every menu in town has a burger listed on it, there is none that really stands out from the crowd.
