No holidays for over a year but west is still fave for majority of people

It has been well over a year since most of the people living in Ireland have taken a much-needed holiday. According to new research commissioned by Europcar Mobility Group Ireland, 52% of Connacht people have not taken a break since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The research shows that 44% of those in Connacht took a staycation in Ireland last year, but the length of stay was relatively short with the majority (40%) taking between two and three days.

A fully integrated ticketing, booking and capacity management system is being introduced at the Cliffs of Moher to further enhance the overall visitor experience for the 1.6 million annual visitors to Ireland's most popular natural attraction.

Clare County Council has engaged Vivaticket to roll out the Visitor Attraction Management System (VAMS) which will enable individuals and group tours to secure their visit and experience at an available time via a booking portal allowing for improved visitor flow and a better visitor spread. The new technology also offers a range of other features aimed at delivering economic and social benefits for the wider Clare tourism sector.

Funding boost for Westport tourism

The Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin and Fáilte Ireland announced a total investment of €36.1million to develop a new world-class tourist attraction at Westport House and Garden Estate. Fáilte Ireland is investing €20.2million into the project.

It is expected that the first five years of this projected that €33m will be generated in direct tourism expenditure supporting 1,000 jobs in the area with 66 new jobs created.
