As families in Galway begin the big Christmas food shop, ?? Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food is drawing attention to Galway’s annual food waste bill. The county is on track to throw away an estimated ??€69 million in food waste this year.

Research from the Environmental Protection Agency indicates that the average Irish household wastes an estimated €700 of salvageable food annually. When this is multiplied by the 99,415 occupied households recorded in Galway in the most recent census, it works out at an estimated €69,590,500 in potentially wasted food over a 12-month period.
