ASTI committed to externally assessed Leaving Cert 2022

The Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland has said it is committed to an externally assessed Leaving Certificate this year, in line with the students’ and teachers’ expectations.

Across all subjects, ASTI members are implementing the agreed curricular revisions designed to allow the established Leaving Certificate to proceed as outlined by Minister for Education Norma Foley and her Department. ASTI also notes new one-off arrangements for oral exams in Irish and modern foreign languages and the music practical exam for Leaving Certificate 2022.

Deadline for discounted CAO applications looms

Students who apply to the CAO before January 20 can avail of a discounted application fee. With just three weeks to go before this deadline, it is worth looking at the other key dates and deadlines coming up in the application process.

Discounted application fees are available up to 5pm on Thursday January 20. The normal deadline for applications is 5pm on Tuesday February 1. However the CAO has been advising students to get their applications done early.

The EPSEN Act provides for the education of children aged under 18 years with special educational needs. The purpose of the review is to ensure that legislation on education for students with additional needs is up-to-date, fully operational, and reflective of the lived experiences of students and families.

Gold Cobra team from Scoil Bhríde Mercy Tuam win Junk Kouture audience award

A group of transition year students from Scoil Bhríde Mercy secondary school in Tuam have been named audience favourite at Junk Kouture in a public vote hosted by RTE. The winning team - Nia Lydon, Beibhinn Gleeson, and Katelyn Boyle - now in fifth year at Scoil Bhríde, facilitated by their art teacher Lisa Browne during transition year, fashioned hundreds of reused cable ties and broken phone charger leads to create a showstopping outfit called Gold Cobra.
