Slovakian man arrested for drink driving not long after arriving in Ireland

Ballyhaunis District Court was told this week that a Slovakian man had only been in Ireland a few weeks when he was arrested for drink driving and driving without insurance. Ladislav Centar with an address at Abbeyquarter, Ballyhaunis, pleaded guilty to a number of motoring offences in Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Book of evidence to be served in sexual assault case

Gardai will serve the book of evidence against an east Mayo man charged with sexual assault at the March sitting of Ballyhaunis District Court. At Tuesday’s sitting of the court, Garda Rosaleen Harrison gave evidence of arresting the man at 9am on Tuesday, February 7 and taking him to Claremorris Garda Station where she charged him. The man made no reply to the charges in the station.

€300 fine for woman who parked car blocking road

A Ballyhaunis woman who didn’t pay a fixed charge penalty notice after she parked her car at a 45 degree angle on the Main Street in Ballyhaunis causing the traffic to back up through the town was convicted and fined €300 this week in Ballyhaunis District Court.

Garda Alan Ryan told the court that on July 21, 2011 at 2.40pm he saw a car parked on the Main Street which was parked at a 45 degree angle, partially blocking the road. He left and came back ten minutes later and the car was still there. He went on to tell the court that he was unable to stay around to speak to the driver when they came back so he issued a fixed penalty notice which was never paid.
