Calleary calls for extra staff to tackle medical card delays

Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has called for the immediate redeployment of civil servants to speed up the processing of medical card applications. Deputy Calleary has described the protracted delays as a disgrace, as thousands of seriously ill people are left unable to pay their medical expenses as they wait for their cards to be renewed.

To meet or not to meet, that is the question for Ballina councillors

Despite agreeing at the December meeting of the Ballina Electoral Area Committee that the committee would hold monthly meetings from now on rather than the bi-monthly meeting schedule that they had been using, actually agreeing to do so caused problems yesterday. At the February meeting of the committee, there was an item on the agenda to set the day and time each month that the committee would meeting.

Mayo County Council convicted in relation to water standards

The Environmental Protection Agency has brought a case against Mayo County Council in relation to drinking water standards in the Lough Mask water supply scheme. Mayo County Council admitted breaching the European Communities (Drinking Water) Regulations. These regulations establish strict quality standards for water used for human consumption.
