Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Company and Mayo Sports Partnership in association with Mayo County Development Board, Mayo Mental Health Association, Connacht Rugby (IRFU), the FAI, Mayo GAA, HSE , and the Department of Social Protection will deliver Goal to Work in Ballyhaunis this September. Places will be limited to 12 trainee coaches. Closing date for receipt of completed applications is strictly 4pm Thursday, June 21. Short listing may apply based on information provided in completed application form. Plans are at an advanced stage for the 2012 summer festival in Islandeady, which proved to be a great success last year and will take place over the August bank holiday weekend (August 3 to 5) Celebrations will commence on Friday evening with a family evening and barbecue at the Key West. Saturday morning there will be a fun walk in the centre of the parish, a heritage day in the afternoon at Jack’s Cottage followed by a table quiz in the Halfway House on Saturday night. Sunday morning at 11am mass will be celebrated in the graveyard, followed by boat trips on the beautiful Bilberry Lake and Sunday afternoon there will be a big family sports day at the GAA pitch (fun for all the family). To close the weekend there will be a Barn Dance held in Jacks Cottage.

Western Lakes Cycling Club’s family fun cycle is happening on Sunday, June 17. Sign on at Cycling Centre, Kilmaine Rd, Ballinrobe at 11am, leaving the Cornmarket at 12pm. This is a 30km (18mile) round trip. Light refreshments in grounds of Ashford Castle where the family can relax in the beautiful surrounds and more refreshments upon return to the Cornmarket. All you need is your bicycle in good working order and your helmet, all children need to be accompanied by an adult.

A fishing competition in remembrance of the late Kenneth Sweeney will take place on Lough Mask on Sunday, June 17 from 11am to 6pm. This family day out is open to all and there will be a barbecue and refreshments served. All donations appreciated to the Family Centre Castlebar, for the Mayo Suicide Liaison Project. Prize giving will take place in Flynn’s Bar with music and food from 9pm.
