New code of professional conduct for teachers

The Teaching Council has this week published a new Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers which will guide teachers’ professional judgement and practice. The Code sets out the standards of professional knowledge, skill, competence and conduct which are expected of registered teachers. In all, there are 33 such standards which reflect the complexity and variety of teaching and cover areas such as communication and relationships, equality and inclusion, compliance with national and school policies, professional development and pupil/student welfare. The standards are underpinned by four core values - respect, care, integrity and trust.

Mulherin calls for Ballina hospital beds to relieve pressure on Mayo General

Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin is to request the Minister for Health make funding available to re-open 12 beds in Ballina District Hospital in order relieve pressure on acute services at Mayo General which, she said, has seen an eight per cent increase in people presenting to the hospital in recent months, ‘along with a marked increase in the number of patients on trolleys which had been brought well below the national average in the previous 18 months’.

Six groups from Mayo to receive free group travel trip

Iarnród Éireann has announced the winners of 100 free trips on its services as part of its community initiative, The Journey’s On Us. More than 700 organisations from right across the community, voluntary, and sporting sectors applied. The winners were chosen with the help of Volunteers Centres Ireland and The Wheel.
