Current Galway football chairman John Joe Holleran is due to face a challenge for his position at the football board convention tonight (Thursday) in Loughgeorge.
Current vice chairman Michael Ruane of Monivea-Abbey has been nominated for the position by the Carna-Caiseal club.

Last weekend in Athenry, St Thomas’ hurling club had one of the best days in its short history when overcoming Loughrea by 0-14 to 0-11 to collect the Western Postform u-21A county hurling title.
St Thomas was formed in 1968 with the amalgamation of Kilchreest and Peterswell and last Sunday was a real step forward for this progressive club.

After the high of last weekend’s first home Heineken Cup fixture, Connacht return to the bread and butter competition of the RaboDirect Pro 12 on Saturday (6.30pm).
And it does not get any easier. Having faced the current English premiership leaders Harlequins and the French champions Toulouse over the last two weeks, Connacht now host the RaboDirect league leaders Ospreys.
