Moycullen win can provide Super League momentum

Thu, Oct 31, 2019

After finishing on the wrong side of a couple of tight games over the last couple of weeks, Moycullen’s Superleague side got back to winning ways on Saturday with an 89-83 win over league newcomers Dublin Lions.

Moycullen had to dig deep for this victory, however. A slow start meant they were forced to chase for most of the game, until a three-point barrage in the final quarter propelled them into the lead.

Kilkerrin-Clonberne ready to claim another Connacht crown

Thu, Oct 24, 2019

Having won their seventh county title in a row, and also defeating the mighty Carnacon for the second year in succession, Kilkerrin Clonberne will face Roscommon’s Kilbride in the Connacht Senior Ladies' Football Championsip final at St Croan’s GAA (2pm).

Kilkerrin Clonberne manager Kevin Reidy will hope Olivia Divilly can continue her form, having sandwiched a quick trip to Australia for trials in between two sublime performances in the county final and Connacht semi-final. However, it has been an all-round team performance that has made the Galway championship their own in the last number of years, and Kilkerrin/Clonberne will be hoping to continue their push for an All-Ireland medal, having been beaten by the Cork champions in 2018.

Moycullen needs to secure home win when Lions visit

Thu, Oct 24, 2019

Moycullen are back at home this weekend hoping to get their Super League basketball season back on track when they welcome bottom-of-the-table Dublin Lions to the NUI Galway Kingfisher Gym for a 3pm clash on Monday afternoon.

It has been a difficult start for the Moycullen men, who last weekend travelled to Belfast looking to return to winning way. Frustratingly, though, the game played out as an almost carbon copy of their previous performance, and despite a great effort defensively, an unbalanced offence meant Moycullen had to chase for most of the game, losing to Belfast Star by 76-68.

Champions St Thomas made to sweat to keep title hopes alive

Thu, Oct 17, 2019

St Thomas survived a war of attrition against Tommy Larkins on Saturday afternoon to keep alive their dreams of retaining the county title for the first time, but they were really made to sweat by Ciaran Fahy’s side at a packed Kenny Park, prevailing 0-16 to 0-14.

This quarter-final may not have been pretty on the eye, but Larkins knew they were better off to make it a dogfight than try to outhurl the reigning champs, and a massive shock was on the cards when they led by one almost five minutes into stoppage time.

When the sides were level at 0-6 apiece after a frantic opening quarter, it was hard to see how Turloughmore could go on to dominate, but that they did in assured fashion as seven different players contributed points to open up a 0-17 to 0-9 lead by the 42nd minute.
