Michael Mongan was among the winners at this year's national sport volunteer awards for his dedicated work with Galway' Olympic Boxing Club.
Mongan is well known in Galway sporting circles having held every role and duty in the Olympic Boxing Club. However, his influence has extended beyond the club with involvement with Foroige and Tusla Youth Projects, Garda Diversion Projects, the Galway City Partnership, Youthreach, Dochas Don Oige, Community Training Centre and organisations encouraging the participation and progression of members in education and into employment.

No rest for Connacht. After two tough Heineken Champions Cup fixtures, Andy Friend's squad will have little festive fare as they prepare for the first of the seasonal interprovincials, starting on Sunday at the Sportsground against Ulster (7.35pm).
Connacht, after two disappointing Heineken Champions Cup fixtures, must move on quickly to focus on the PRO14. Currently, Connacht are in a healthy position. Although 16 points behind Conference B leaders Munster, Connacht are in second place with 20, and still with a game in hand on the chasing Scarlets with 16 points.

It is a fantastic opportunity for these young men to add a Celtic cross to their Connacht medals already claimed this year. It would be a massive boost to Galway football if this team could get over the line in what has been a disappointing year for Galway football in general.

The Galway captain is cool out, given that the day we are speaking should have been her wedding day, her second chosen date this year; after her first date in March was postponed due to the lockdown. In August, she realised that her November date was going to go the same way with increasing restrictions, so herself and her fiancé have put plans on hold until late next year, when the world will be a better and safer place.

THE Ladies Gaelic Football Association wishes to clarify matters arising from today’s TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Championship semi-final between Cork and Galway.
A morning pitch inspection deemed the original venue, Parnell Park, unplayable, due to severe frost. The decision to move the game from Parnell Park, therefore, was made in the interests of player safety.
