•The Sean Purcell Academy Day takes place this year on Saturday and will be hosted by Tuam. This annual event is a blitz day for all intercounty u-14 academy players which will see 13 teams from six counties taking part. The participating players have been chosen after a selection process. The games will be played at two venues in Tuam, Tuam Stadium and the Tuam Stars ground, commencing at 11am.

• Galway’s Greg Cunningham, who continues to impress at Manchester City, has agreed a new four-years deal at the club. The 19-years-old, who signed from Mervue United in 2007, made his Ireland debut in May and played for 30 minutes against Argentina last week. It has been an “ unbelievable year” for him, he says. “To get this new deal sorted and win my first full cap for my country has exceeded all my expectations. I’m delighted to have signed a new deal with City. Now I need to impress the manager as much as I can and get as much game time as I can, too.”

Galway Golf Club’s Eddie McCormack (+3) has been included in the team to represent Ireland in the Home Internationals that take place at Ashburnham Golf Club, Wales from August 11 to 13. The Cavan golfer, who plays out of the Galway club, has enjoyed consistent form throughout 2010 - a beaten finalist in the West of Ireland, third-round leader in the East of Ireland championship, and two singles wins for Connacht in the recent interprovincial series at Ballinrobe Golf club.

•A special train will return to Galway after the Ireland v Argentina soccer international on Wednesday August 11, departing Dublin Heuston Station at 11.05pm. This train also serves Athenry and Ballinasloe stations. Iarnród Éireann customers may travel to Dublin on any of the regular trains. Supporters will not be able to board trains unless they are in possession of train ticket.
