Rip roaring county final expected on Sunday

Both teams have been out of the county final limelight for many years, but Craughwell will have very few, if any, members of the club who can remember their last one.

Claregalway Hotel football Dream teams announced

The annual Claregalway Hotel Dream Teams for the Galway Senior and Intermediate Football Championships were announced this week.

A total of six clubs are represented in the senior list. Current county and All-Ireland champions Corofin have the highest number of awards with six players, while their county final opponents Mountbellew-Moylough have four players on the team, with Killanin, Cortoon Shamrocks, Tuam Stars and Salthill all with one representative.

Maturing Connacht face another pressure test against Edinburgh

Connacht are preparing for a backlash from Edinburgh when they visit the Galway Sportsground on Saturday (6.45pm).  Both sides have enjoyed their best starts to the Guinness Pro12 this season, but while Connacht recorded a notable first victory in 11 years over the Ospreys in Swansea, Edinburgh lost their first match of the season when they fell to Zebre in Italy.

Dublin Marathon to test Galway athletes

Some 100 Galway club runners will be taking part in the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon on Back Holiday Monday.

Among the athletes are John Cronin of GCH and Mick Rice of Athenry who are expected to feature among the first Galway athletes home. Both men will be aiming to finish well under 2.50 in the 26.2 mile race, which is also part the national marathon championship.

Corinthians off the mark

Corinthians posted their first victory in the the Ulster Bank League this season on a 20-12 scoreline against Nenagh on Saturday.

Corinthians were ahead 10-7 at the break, courtesy of a James Procter try, and a conversion and penalty from fullback Simon Keller, while the hosts grabbed an intercept try from centre John Long.
