Galway, this year's league finalists, did not have it all their own way against a determined Tipperary outfit. Although Galway led from start to finish, it was neck and neck for most of the game.

There was a genuinely eerie feeling at McHale Park last Saturday evening around 8.30pm. Galway had just beaten the home side by 1-12 to 0-12 and large numbers of Mayo supporters just sat in the stand numbed and perplexed by what had happened.

Having already beaten the Cork side away this season, the Tribesmen are keen to continue their winning ways after a 30-26 win over the newly-formed Athy Sharks at South Park last weekend.

As always the tournament produced some of the finest doubles play of the year, and Al Waterson, partnered by Alec Sandys, swept through the group stages to defeat the Irish international pair of Donal Hegarty and Pat Dillon in the final.
