Heverin, a former Salthill player, is well known in Galway GAA circles as the man who managed Portumna hurlers to three county titles and two club All-Ireland titles in recent years and was interviewed for the county hurlers managers job recently.

Salthill is the starting point for a charity coast to coast cycle being undertaken by members and players of Bective Rangers Rugby Club.
The 225 km cycle will depart from Salthill on Saturday at 7 am bound for the finishing line in Sandymount, and the club is seeking some “hardy Galway folk” who would be out at that hour to give them some encouragement as they head off.

The Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym is promoting an international full contact kickboxing tournament at Galway’s Black Box Theatre on Saturday, entitled "Seasons Beatings".
This is one of the Galway club’s most ambitious projects and will feature an Ireland v The Carribbean five-man team event, three IKF European title fights, an IKF All Ireland title fight, an IKF Five-Nations title fight, an Ireland v England international bout, and seven undercard fights featuring fighters from Galway.
