Injury time strike leaves United disappointed as they head north

An SSE Airtricity League premier division campaign that promised so much early on in the season is edging towards a worrying conclusion for Galway United, who make the long trek to the Brandywell on Friday for a clash against Derry City (7.45pm).
Last Saturday evening United suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Sligo Rovers, who finished strongly netting the winner in injury time courtesy of Achille Campion. Tommy Dunne’s team hit the front in the second half when Gary Shanahan scored, but Rovers’ Raffaele Cretaro equalised before Campion landed the late knockout blow.

Galway WFC players were part of a successful outing for the Republic of Ireland senior women’s side against Wales in Caerphilly, South Wales, which finished with an all-Galway WFC back four.
