Galway WFC players were part of a successful outing for the Republic of Ireland senior women’s side against Wales in Caerphilly, South Wales, which finished with an all-Galway WFC back four. Vaptain Méabh De Búrca, along with debutantes Shauna Fox, Chloe Moloney and Sadhbh Doyle, helped Ireland to a 2-1 victory with the aid of two late goals from Arsenal’s Katie McCabe.

Senior club football championship recommences this weekend

The race for the Frank Fox Cup and the right to be considered the top football club in Galway recommences this weekend with two preliminary quarter-finals down for decision, and three round three games.

First up on Saturday in Pearse Stadium (5.45pm) in a preliminary quarter-final is Carraroe and Corofin.

Impressive minor footballers glide into All-Ireland final

The Galway minor footballers, under the guidance of team manager Stephen Joyce and selectors Jason Taniane and Terence Morgan, produced a good performance Sunday in Croke Park on Sunday, defeating Donegal by 2-12 to 1-11 to qualify for the All-Ireland minor final for the first time in nine years.

After the disappointment of losing by a single point to Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final two weeks ago, it is back to the senior club championship for Galway hurling supporters this weekend, with four preliminary quarter-finals down for decision.

Duggan Park will host a double header on Saturday evening with Cappataggle taking on Mullagh (4pm), followed by Tommy Larkins and Padraig Pearses at 5.30.

Galway's Sean Breathnach was arguably the athlete at the National Masters track and field championships, dominating the throws M35 category as expected.

The Galway City Harriers man won the shot putt with 16.99m, the javelin with 42.80m, the discus with 46.54m, and the weight for distance with 7.81m to make it a golden quadruple. He also won silver in the hammer with 33.48m behind Thomas Bouchier’s (Ferrybank) winning throw of 33.92m.
